The DEMO, and the 2 split 7"s. I've always been into 90's east coast hardcore and anything back ta basics. DA REAL DEAL, was a hardcore band from NEW JERSEY in the mid nineties,

Playing all around the tri state area, with bands like burnside, dysphoria, krutch and others. I had heard about DA REAL DEAL through back ta basics records.... once again rick ta life, showing me tons of bands I would have never heard of.

This was the time of no internet, and I lived 7 hours from any of the shows happening in the general SEPA/NJ area. also being 15 and not having a car didn't help. So information on bands just kinda trickled through word of mouth. So just so this doesn't get lost to the sands of time here is all their stuff for you

DOWNLOAD DA REAL DEAL

SELF DECAY

Self Decay was a short lived hardcore band from Poughkeepsie NY featuring one of my favorite drummers in hardcore Rigg Ross. I had stumbled upon them through the Hardcore Pride Webring (Remember those?) At the time Ross had already recorded satisfaction which was constant rotation for me. He was also in skarhead, ragmen and madball for anyone thats keeping score.

It wasn't until years later that I picked up"Beneath the lies" which was released on Kevones record label TIME-SERVED RECORDS, which had put out setback, terrorzone, One4One, Denied and bulldoze. "Beneath the lies" is a six song EP that is straight up east coast hardcore. Punchy and tight drums has always been my thing, and this is full of it. The comp had various bands who were upincoming at the time such as Unearth, Undying, Cipher, Diecast, Nora, & Unsound. Endless fight records went under in the early 2000's. and the Varisty Violence EP soon sold out quickly. The CD is extremely hard to find nowadays, I've seen copies go for almost $100. Which is ridiculous, so I've decided to scan the entire layout for you, so you can have the lyrics. I've also included the Varisty Violence demo, and a compilation song entitled "PIPE DREAM" which can be found on "Best of the best northeast" which has a lot of great east coast bands like inhuman, tears of frustration, One4One, Holdstrong, Indecision and more. Clubber Lang apparently did a reunion at this is hardcore fest last year. I think it was cold world with cooper on vocals. I don't really have too much info on that. I never got the chance to see Clubber Lang. I've heard stories of crazy shows, golf clubs and Hawaiian shirts. Maybe if you talk to someone from New Jersey they will drop some knowledge on you. Enjoy!

VARSITY VIOLENCE DEMO

VARSITY VIOLENCE EP

"PIPE DREAM" from Best of the best northeast compilation

DOWNLOAD

COLD AS LIFE... All these bands now doing the death metal hardcore sound (despised icon etc..). RED SKY was the originators as far as I am concerned. Red sky was a deathcore band from Edinboro Pennsylvania, and who I feel to be one of the only band in the erie area who could actually play metal. There have been numerous bad bar metal bands coming out of erie at the time who were caught up in style of korn/the deftones etc. I've had to sit through many of these bad bands when I used to hit up the now defunct State Street Tavern. SST was a metal bar in downtown Erie that used to have all ages showcase shows on saturdays... But there was many a time that I've snuck in the back during the 21+ shows. SST turned into Nickys pub which is a fucking yuppie bar, but apparently nickys pub is now closed and theres some new bar called the crooked I in its place..anwyays back to red sky for a moment. I remember watching red sky and idolizing their drummer Phil Hogan. At the time I was just dabbling into playing drums, and was drumming in my first hardcore band downturn when I was 15. I never had drum lessons, and we just kinda winged it. We were teenagers powered on SURGE soda, and just wanted to play shows with some of our favorite local hardcore bands, (Contradiction, Red Sky, Neverfall, Abstain, Digression, Brothers keeper, xDISCIPLEx).

Knife behind the smile is one of my all time favorite hardcore metal releases, it holds a special place in my heart growing up & I know deep down that if Red Sky never parted ways in the early 2000's they would be huge today. If you take a look at all this psuedo deathcore bands out, who downtune their guitars and pig squeel, they are all terrible. Take a word of advice go listen to an obituary record and write some new riffs.

You can download their First Full Length from 1998 entitled "KNIFE BEHIND THE SMILE"on the now defunct CT label ENDLESS FIGHT RECORDS (Clubber Lang, Unearth, dissolve) and their second Full Length "II - "MPFW" released in 2000 on ALVERAN RECORDS out of Europe.

KNIFE BEHIND THE SMILE & II - "MPFW"

BILLYCLUB SANDWICH - LIVE AT WNYU

Hailing from the boogie down Bronx, comes one of New York's most underrated hardcore bands, Billyclub Sandwich. Being a fury of five fanatic I was on the prowl for years just to hear these tapes. Locked up in life was a band that James Ismean from fury of five sang for back in the 1991 and 1992. Somehow by luck, I came across a man in CT by the name of Stefan. I had printed up some shirts for his DJ stuff before.

He found out that I was looking for these locked up in life demos and hooked me up with dubs of the tapes and he was nice enough to rip them onto CD for me.
I met up with him in baltimore a few months ago at an All Out War show and he handed them over to me. It was like receiving a million in hardcore yen. I had been looking for copies of these tapes for almost 10 years. A few years back I had messaged Ismean looking for locked up in life material, but to no avail.

Now I had them and it felt like christmas. Once again many thanks to Stefan. Now I bestow them onto you, in all its Jerz glory. These were recorded and released in 1991 and 1992.

Hope you enjoy!

Also I know there was another Pre Fury band that Stikman sang for Called POSITION OF POWER... I've been looking to complete my own mushmouth collection for years. I myself have been missing their first two demos entitled "thick as thieves" and "look ahead". I has ripped my copy of the 97 demo a few years back and stuck it up online. So its been circulating around for awhile. While the lack of label support could definitely be argued, there have been bands represented by much smaller labels who have managed to attain attention for themselves while writing music that doesn't even touch what Mushmouth was putting out. Mushmouth's lack of notoriety certainly was not due to a lack of talent, sincerity or any other reasons that usually keeps a band unknown. Whatever it was, Mushmouth/Out To Win are arguably one of the most underated hardcore bands of all time.

Out To Win was formed under the name Mushmouth during the Summer of 1995 in Reading, PA. After gaining a loyal following in the regional area, Mushmouth released a demo entitled "Look Ahead" and began playing shows all over the Northeast. Guitarist Chris Mahmood was also in charge of vocals on this debut demo which was apparently recorded as a three piece. Three of the five tracks were featured on the infamous East Coast Assault Volume 2 compilation put out by Too Damn Hype. You can check out a blog on this compilation posted by Edwin on the Stuck In The Past blog HERE. This compilation also featured early tracks from All Out War, Hatebreed, Indecision, Comin Correct and Stigmata amongst many others.

Things were continuing to look up for Mushmouth with the recording of their second demo, "Thick As Thieves". They once again returned to Gamut Recording Studios in Latrobe, PA which was responsible for the recording of the infamous Passover/No Retreat split as well as the equally legendary Pensive/Seasons In The Field split. The second recording effort saw bassist Dave moving to vocal duties as well as the addition of a second guitarist named Mike. While I am quite a fan of both of these earliest demos, it wouldn't be until their next release, a 1997 Demo, that Mushmouth would truly come into their own with both a new line-up and sound.

It was with the release of this 1997 Demo that Mushmouth added what would become the signature vocals of one Chris Henzel. The rage heard within these vocals are apparent even through the low quality cassette rips in which you'll be hearing this through. Three of the six tracks (Abrasion, Uncertain & Steppin' Out) would go on to be re-recorded for their monumental debut full length entitled Out To Win. This recording session revealed a sense of bitterness that fails to develop on some of the most produced albums. In a similar fashion to their earliest demos, the band lent two of their 1997 demo tracks, "False Belief" & "Uncertain", to the infamous Call For Unity compilation put out by Rick Ta Life in 1997. Another two tracks (Abrasion & My World) would make their way onto a split 7" with Livin' Proof.

The debut album, Out To Win (which would later become the band's moniker), was preceded by a split 7" release with Skarhead featuring a preview track entitled Fearless. When the album was finally released, it contained 11 tracks of pure hostility which far surpassed the efforts of all three demos combined. Produced by AJ Novello of Leeway, the album had a feeling of both relentless pessimism and boundless rage. Not to be outdone, the band successfully followed up their debut full length with a fitting sophomore album entitled Lift The Curse. As with the all previous efforts, the album's lyrics tend to focus on hatred and disgust towards most people encountered in daily life. Songs of betrayal and revenge are in abundance. More ofter than not, said subject matter becomes quite mundane and over done in my eyes; not in Mushmouth's case. Vocalist Chris Henzel seethes a sort of genuine disgust that rings true, even throughout over two albums' worth of venting on the subject.

Somewhere in between the release of Lift The Curse in 2000 and the release of their follow up EP in 2002, the band decided to change their name to Out To Win due to the surprisingly high number of other bands using the name Mushmouth. Coinciding with the name change, the band released the Persist And Destroy EP. While still maintaining their sound, the band started to lean a bit more metallic with this release; at times being reminiscent of Arkangel's "Dead Man Walking" album. Being recorded at Trax East Studios in NJ and then mixed at Atomic Studios in NYC on top of that, the album was by far the group's most fierce sounding effort. While there were no guest vocals by James Ismean on this album (a first), Sal from Sworn Enemy contributed vocals which were more than sufficient. Ironically, the band also chose to re-record the track "Out To Win" from their "Out To Win" album released back when the band was still considered to be Mushmouth. I've included the Lift The Curse and Persist And Destroy albums together in the same upload as they are both equally necessary listening.

The band also released a final album before breaking up in 2007 entitled Beg For Life. I'm not uploading it due to the fact that its still readily available through Thorp Records. While I personally don't feel as though it is as strong of an album as any of the ones I have uploaded, it definitely contains two of their best and most original songs in the form of "Ghost Army" and the title track, "Beg For Life". Yes, James Ismean does guest vocals on this album ... and this time its about bringing the wrath of the lord down on your ass.

As previously stated, the band has regretfully parted ways with their final show taking place at the Earth Crisis reunion show at Sonar in Baltimore, MD in early 2007. The band is known, however, for their surprise sets of two or three songs whenever they manage to get to the same place at the same time. One can only hope the band decides to pull their efforts together once
more."

DOWNLOAD - Thick As Thieves & Look Ahead demos
DOWNLOAD - 1997 Demo & Out To Win
DOWNLOAD - Lift The Curse & Persist And Destroy

First Post....back fresh

So I'm changing formats here. I've limited myself with keystone hardcore to strictly Pennsylvania bands. But I realized after doing so that there is so much more that I want to showcase. I also realized that sendspace deleted files very quickly. So I'm re uploading the first demo I put on keystone hardcore which is the freight train demo.

Living in the northwest corner Pennsylvania has its ups and downs... A lot of bands crept through because of being located in such a prime spot between Cleveland and Buffalo. So bands traveling or booking tours off Interstate 90 always tried shooting for an off date in Erie. Especially years ago when we had numerous spots all over the city when I first started coming up. IQ records, Continental Ballroom, Ace Auctioneers, Bay county, Perry highway hose co. etc. Erie was the powerhouse of the area in the 90's. But this first posting is actually about a band from the opposite corner of my glorious state, that to my knowledge never got up in this area. Freight Train was a hardcore band based out Philadelphia. PA was (and is still)widely known for great bands, great people and wild shows. Freight Train doesn't disappoint. I originally had this demo on Tape which I had gotten along with another philly bands demo called Kensington. Unfortunatly the tape had no artwork, only the printed words FREIGHT TRAIN on it. It wasnt untill about 7 years later that my friend AJ was in Philadelphia scowering record stores, that he stumbled upon this CD version of the same demo that I had mixed in a dollar bin. He knew I was into the band so he picked it for me and actually surprised me with it. I was beyond stoked, because well my tape was pretty worn and old, and if I played it one more time I think the tape itself would have snapped. I was also elated because I now had artwork and a REAL tracklisting. I had originally ripped my demo tape to mp3 and uploaded it to an FTP & FSERV on IRC that I used to run years ago... IRC...THE REAL DEAL!

Ask my man steve "pollcat" pollman about that one if you ever run into him around Delaware at a show. Anyways I never got to see freight train, but in my years of tape trading came across a small set from a reunion show at harrykats a few years ago. Back to the matter at hand. The demo is great. 5 songs of classic Philadelphia hardcore.
